Privacy Policy

Overview

OzGyms (ozgyms.com.au) is an Australian gym comparison website. We take a simple approach to privacy: we log anonymous usage data in our own database to understand how the site is used, we don't share your data with third parties, and we don't use advertising profiling or third-party tracking services.

What we collect

Anonymous usage events

When you browse OzGyms, we log anonymised usage events to our own Supabase database. Each event records:

• The type of event (e.g. page view, search, gym profile click)
• An anonymous session ID stored in a browser cookie (oz_sid) — a random identifier that is not linked to your identity
• The page URL and referring URL
• A one-way hash of your IP address — used only for bot filtering and rate limiting; the original IP is never stored
• Your browser's User-Agent string — used only to identify and exclude automated bots from analytics
• Contextual data such as search query, suburb, state, and which gym was viewed

We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it (e.g. via the correction or pricing submission forms).

Voluntary submissions

If you submit a gym correction or pricing update, we collect the information you provide including an optional email address. This is stored in our Supabase database and used only to process your submission and contact you if needed.

How we use your data

• To improve the site — understanding which suburbs are searched most helps us prioritise data quality efforts.
• To measure gym listing performance — sponsored gym listings receive anonymised performance reports (impressions, clicks, intent actions).
• To filter bots — we use User-Agent and IP hash data to exclude automated traffic from analytics.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for profiling.

Cookies

We set one first-party cookie:

We do not set advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or any cookies from external services.

Third-party services

• Supabase — our database provider. Data is stored on servers in the AWS ap-southeast-2 (Sydney) region. Supabase's privacy policy applies to data processed on their infrastructure.
• Vercel — our hosting provider. Standard access logs (IP, User-Agent, path) are processed by Vercel's infrastructure. Vercel's privacy policy applies.
• Google Search Console — we submit our sitemap to Google Search Console to improve search indexing. This service receives our sitemap URL only; no user data is shared.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Clarity, or any other third-party analytics or advertising services.

Data retention

• Raw event logs are retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
• Daily rollup summaries (aggregate counts, no individual data) are retained indefinitely.
• Gym correction and pricing submissions are retained until processed.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about you. Because our analytics are anonymous, we typically hold no personal information unless you have made a voluntary submission.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of OzGyms after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
